Thisstudyaimsatinvestigatingtheeffectofcomputerassistedinstruction.Thesampleofthestudyconsistedof60studentsrandomlyselectedfromschoolsandassignedtoexperimentalandcontrolgroups.Datawerecollectedwithinaneight-weekperiodviaapre-posttestdesignforequivalentgroups.Thefindingsofthestudyindicatedthatusingcomputer-assistedEnglishlanguageinstructionalongsidethetraditionalmethodhasapositiveeffectontheexperimentalgroupstudents’achievement.Feasibilitystudywascarriedoutthroughinspectionofdocumentandrecordswhichhasbeenused.Theproblemsoftheexistingwayoflearningwerediscovered.Itwasalsonotedthatthenewsystemthathasthefacilities,capableofdeliveringexpertknowledgewithoutdelayingtime.
Thefollowingtoolswereusedinordertoachievethedesignedobjectivesofthesystemlikesystemflowchart,programflowchartandnewdesignsoftware.Theresearchworkisaimedatturningthemanualprocessoflearningcomputerassistedone.
Itisgenerallyhopedthatwhenalltheaspectofthisprojectaredullytakenintoconsiderationandcameout,therewillbeagreatchangeintheprocessoflearning.
Aself-learningtechnique,usuallyoffline/online,involvinginteractionofthestudentwithprogrammedinstructionalmaterials.Computer-assistedinstruction(CAI)isaninteractiveinstructionaltechniquewherebyacomputerisusedtopresenttheinstructionalmaterialandmonitorthelearningthattakesplace.
CAIusesacombinationoftext,graphics,soundandvideoinenhancingthelearningprocess.Thecomputerhasmanypurposesintheclassroom,anditcanbeutilizedtohelpastudentinallareasofthecurriculum.
CAIreferstotheuseofthecomputerasatooltofacilitateandimproveinstruction.CAIprogramsusetutorials,drillandpractice,simulation,andproblemsolvingapproachestopresenttopics,andtheytestthestudent’sunderstanding.
Sincetheinventionofprogramminglanguages,lifehascontinuedtobeeasierforpeoplesincethereareprogrammerstouseitinsolvinglittleproblems.Nottocomparetotheprevioustechnologywherebypeoplesufferalotjusttogetwhattheywant.Innovationknowsseemstoappearataratethatincreasestremendously.Theseinnovationshavesignificantlyimprovedscienceandtechnologydevelopmentfromonegenerationtoanother,asadvancementineveryspherecannotbeoveremphasized.
Thestandardoflearninghasincreasedgreatlycomparetothepastwhenpeoplegofromoneplacetryingtolearnandthishasmadethesystemanalystandprogrammerstothinkvastlyonhowpeoplecaneasilyacquireknowledgeintheareaoftheirchoicewiththeaidofcomputer.Astheworsenedsituationofacquiringknowledgeexacerbatedandpeoplestillfinditverydifficulttolearnwhattheywant,theynowseekforproblemsolvingsystemandwhichismoreuser-friendlytohelpthemlearn.
Theprojecthasembarkedontheeffectofcomputeraidedinstruction.Acomputerprogramthatappliesartificialintelligentmethodstothetaskofproblemsolvingbyusingdetailedknowledgeandattemptingtosimulatethereasoningprocessofanexpert,asthenameimpliesitinvolvestheuseofprogramswritteninanyprogramminglanguage(highlevel)inproblem-solving.
Computer-assistedinstruction(CAI)isanapproachtoteachingandlearningwherethecomputerandcomputer-basedresourcessuchastheInternetareusedtopresent,reinforceandassessmaterialtobelearned.Itusuallyincludesasubstantialinteractiveelement.Italsoincludesthesearchforandtheinvestigationofapplicationsinlanguageteachingandlearning.Exceptforself-studysoftware,CAIismeanttosupplementface-to-faceinstructionandnotreplaceit.Inrecentyears,CAIresearchershaveinvestigatedtheadvantagesofusingcomputersasteaching/learningtoolsinimprovingdifferentskills.ManystudiesindicatethatCAIprovidesaninnovativeandeffectivealternativeforinstructors(WarshauerandHealey,1998).Inaddition,manystudiesindicatethattherehasbeenanincreaseinemphasisoncomputertechnologyanditsintegrationatalllevelofeducation(Stepp-Greany,2002).Furthermore,computerwouldallowlearnerstoprogressattheirownpaceandworkindividuallytosolveproblems,providesimmediatefeedback,allowslearnerstoknowwhethertheiranswersarecorrectornot,andprovidesthemwiththecorrectanswersiftheiranswersarenotcorrect.
Fromthedatacollectedwhichwasprocessedtobecomeinformation,itwasdiscoveredthattheoldsystemoflearningwasbyclassteachings,distancelearning,PCprojectedteachings,recodedteachingsconversationetc.whichhasalotofhumaninherenterrors.Theseoldsystemexhibitedhighineffectivenessandefficiencyasregardstothequalityofinformationitgivesout.
Thisoldsystemisposedwithalotofconfrontationofhowtoimprovetheaccuracy,quality,timelyofinformationgivenoutataparticulartime.
Atthispoint,itisnecessarytointegratecomputerintheteaching-learningprocess.Asaresult,theneedarisestostudytheeffectofusingcomputersaidedinstruction.TheresearchersintendtoinvestigatetheeffectofComputer-AssistedInstructionalongsidethetraditionalmethodlearning.Someoftheproblemsfacedbytheoldwayoflearningwere:
Thepresentstudyattemptstoinvestigatewhetherusingcomputersinteachingalongsidethetraditionalmethodissignificantlydifferentfromteachingwithouttheaidofcomputers.ThepurposeistocompareusingComputer-AssistedInstructionalongsidethetraditionalmethodwithusingthetraditionalmethodaloneanddecidewhichismoresuitableforthestudentsunderinvestigation.

AsComputer-AssistedInstructionisgoingtobeappliedintheFacultyoflearning,thisstudywillbeoneofthefirstofitskindinthecomputerfield.Almostallofthereviewedstudieswereconductedonlearnersofthenativeway.Therefore,itishopedthatitwillhelpthosewhoareinvolvedintheeducationalprocessingaininginsightsintothecomputer-assistedInstructionexperienceandseektoimproveitovertime.Moreover,itmayencouragefurtherresearchinthisfield,whichmay,inturn,enrichtheareaofComputer-AssistedInstructioningeneral.
